Deceased Name: Lurye , S. Byron Lurye, S. Byron, 98, of Superior, WI passed away on April
14, 2011. Predeceased by beloved wife Eleanor of 54 years, infant daughter,
parents Corrine Tena and Edward I. Lurye, brothers and sister- in-law, Mason
Ginsberg, Sherman and Selma Garnett, and best friend for 18 years, Sophie
Kaner. Born on July 25, 1912, Byron was raised in Superior and remained there
his whole life except for his highly anticipated winters in Palm Springs, CA.
He graduated from Superior Central High School and attended the University of
Wisconsin, Madison. He was the owner of Builder's Supply Co. in Superior, WI,
for 47 years, and was a partner with his father and son at Edward's Realty
for 84 years. Called up at age 32, Byron served briefly during WWII. He was a
life member of the Elks; Chairman of the Police and Fire Commission of
Superior; the Kiwanis, B'nai Brith, and member and President of Temple Beth
El of Superior; a member of Temple Israel and Adas Israel both in Duluth. He
was a member of Northland Country Club in Duluth and Canyon Country Club in
Palm Springs. Byron is survived by son Bruce Lurye (Bonnie), and daughter
Janis Lurye Kuretsky (William); grandchildren Jill and Scott Lurye, Amy
Kuretsky, Cathy Gleason (Tom), Steven Kuretsky (Shelby); great- grandson
Colton; three great-granddaughters; sister-in-law Dolores Ginsberg and
nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to thank the owners and the
staff of Home Instead who lovingly cared for Byron for three and one half
years: Mary, Jerry, Brett, and especially Angel, Lana, and Alice who were
with him for all of that time. Our heartfelt thanks go to Solvay Hospice
House and its caring staff for making Byron's last two months comfortable.
Services will be held today in Superior. A memorial service will be held on
April 28, 2011 at 7 p.m. at Adath Jeshurun Congregation, 10500 Hillside Lane
West, Minnetonka, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Temple
Israel in Duluth, 1602 East Second Street, Duluth, MN 55812 or Solvay Hospice
House in care of Miller-Dwan Foundation, 502 E. 2nd Street, Duluth, MN 55805,

He was 98. Lurye was the owner of Builder's Supply Co. of Superior
for 47 years and was a partner in Edward's Realty in Superior for 84 years.
He was the second generation of the real estate business, following his
father, Edward, who founded the business in 1927, and followed by his son,
Bruce, the current president. Bruce Lurye said his father remained active in the
business until four years ago. "He was a good man," Bruce Lurye
said of his father. "People liked him. He was a good businessman." Builder's Supply closed in 1985, Bruce Lurye said, and the
family has focused its attention on the real estate business since then. Another well-known Superior business, Lurye Furniture, is
operated by a different branch of the family, he said. Byron Lurye graduated from Superior Central High School
and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He served briefly during
World War II, when he was 32. He served at various times as president of the
Police and Fire Commission of Superior and Temple Beth El of Superior, and
